Kristie Mewis is an American professional soccer player who has represented, as a midfielder, FC Kansas City (now-defunct) (2013), Boston Breakers (now-defunct) (2014-2016), Washington Spirit (2017), Chicago Red Stars (2017), and Houston Dash (2017-Present) in the National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL). She has also had short stints with Canberra United FC (2013) in Australia, Iga FC Kunoichi (2014) in Japan, and Bayern Munich (2015-2016) in Germany. At the international level, she had represented the United States in the Under-17, Under-20, and Under-23 tiers before making her senior national team debut in 2013. She had co-captained the United States squad that had reached the final of the 2008 FIFA Under-17 Women’s World Cup and had won the ‘Bronze Ball’ award as the tournament’s third-best player.

  • Although Kristie was most well known for her achievements in soccer at the Whitman-Hanson Regional High School, she was proficient in other sports as well and had set indoor track records for the 300 meters (42.2 s) and 600 meters (1:37) events.
  • She and her younger sister Sam had played soccer together for several youth, representative, and club teams such as Scorpions SC and the under-17 and under-20 United States national teams.
  • The sisters were members of the United States’ squad that had finished as runner-up at the 2008 FIFA Under-17 Women’s World Cup. They were the first pair of sisters to have represented the United States at a Women’s World Cup. They had also played together at the 2010 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup.
  • After having made her senior national team debut for the United States in 2013, she had earned 15 caps until 2014 when she lost her place in the team. After about 5 years on the sidelines, she was called for a training camp in December 2019 but played her comeback match only in November 2020. In that match, against the Netherlands, she had scored a goal in the 70th minute.
